The Percy Special

After writing about the Blood and Sand cocktail in the San Francisco Chronicle, I received the following e-mail:

"dear mr. regan,
your article was very interesting. foxhunting in england a few years ago, i had a similar concoction called a 'percy special'. the alcoholic ingredients were the same, but a splash of 7-up was added instead of orange juice. after making it safely home, it was henceforth referred to as 'liquid courage!' cheers,
anne harris"

3/4 ounce scotch

3/4 ounce sweet vermouth

3/4 ounce cherry brandy

3/4 ounce 7-Up

Shake the scotch, vermouth, and the cherry brandy over ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Top with the 7-Up.
