Cheap Date

Some of you might be wondering what went down at the recent bash at Painter’s featuring the luverly Charlotte Voisey, the erstwhile Simon Ford, and the sassy Miss Martha Schueneman behind the stick.  Oh yes, Gary got back there, too.  Well, suffice it to say we had a darned good time, raised over $400 for charity, and slurped back one or seven Aviations--the first two made with Hendrick’s and Plymouth gins, of course--gotta keep them there brand ambassadors happy, you know.

Twenty people were lucky enough to be chosen to get to Cornwall-on-Hudson via wonderfully tacky stretch lims, courtesy of Hendrick’s and Plymouth, and some people made their own way from as far away as Philadelphia then took a room at Painter’s for the night.  Two people actually made it out of Hoboken to attend the event, and they, too, availed themselves of a room at the inn.  And of course, lots of the good folk from Cornwall-on-Hudson were in attendance, too.

Gary is always eager to learn from other bartenders, and that night he learned something very special from Charlotte.  Or was it Simon?  Gary can’t quite remember which.  It’s a bit of knowledge that you might want to keep under your belt, too.  Bartender stuff.  A tid-bit that could come in handy.  Apparently, and we’ve no idea whether or not this has been absolutely scientifically proven, the face that a bartender makes when he/she is shaking a drink, is the same face that he/she makes when reaching orgasm.  Hmmm . . .

Next time you’re at a bar, then, keep your eyes on that bartender when they pick up that shaker.  You see some pretty strange faces on bartenders as they shake their stuff.  So to speak.  For instance, you should get a load of Simon Ford’s face when he’s rattling that shaker . . .

Martha, Gary, Charlotte, and Simon

(We couldn’t get a shot of Simon shaking.  He was moving far too quickly.  Pretty impressive, actually.)

There’s also a write-up of the event in our local on-line newsletter.  Find it here

Worldwide Bartender Database

We’ve really been hitting our stride with the bartender database of late, and recently our members were the first to hear about more than a couple of plum jobs involving cocktail creation, and Brand Ambassador positions.

If you’re a working bartender and you aren’t yet in this database, you might want to think about joining now,

If you’re already a member, please think about encouraging some of your brother and sister bartenders to join up, too.

Thanks Guys!.

"What the heck are you listening to, Professor?" Bobby, the bar's resident bore, is the only customer at the mahogany at present, and he's driving our cocktailian bartender a little crazy...

Bar Code

Our good friends at   (aka BAR) have been named the 2007 Industry Innovator of the Year by Cheers Magazine  Go get ‘em, Guys!  B.A.R. is made up of what can only be called a Dream Team:  You get Dale DeGroff, Doug Frost, Steve Olsen, Paul Pacult, and Dave Wondrich all in one package.  Jeez, what more could you ask for, Huh?  Okay, you could ask that Wondrich put his hand in his pocket more often, but you know that that ain’t gonna happen, right?

Seriously, though, CONGRATS IN A SERIOUSLY BIG WAY to the team at B.A.R..

And what does our friend, Dale DeGroff, have up his sleeve?  Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots, now you come to mention it.  Details on this year’s spirits- and cocktail-related events can be found right here
